02 Hand Mudras (Hand Postures)

The ancient yogis mapped out the areas of the hand and identified the parts of the body or brain associated with each area.

Each area of the hand also represents different emotions or behaviors, curling, crossing, stretching or touching the fingers or finger tips in specific configurations is a yogic techinque for communicating with the body and mind.

Gyan Mudra

Gyan mudra helps seal in the effects and knowledge you are learning.

Method:

Sitting in easy pose (cross-legged) with your spine and arms straight with the backs of your hands resting on your knees, thumbs and index (first) fingers together.

Shuni Mudra

Shuni mudra helps increase intelligence, wisdom and patience.

Method:

Sitting in easy pose (cross-legged) with your spine and arms straight with the backs of your hands resting on your knees, thumbs and middle (second) fingers together.

Shurya Mudra

Shurya mudra helps increase your vitality of life, nervous system strength overall health.

Method:

Sitting in easy pose (cross-legged) with your spine and arms straight with the backs of your hands resting on your knees, thumbs and ring (third) fingers together.

Buddhi Mudra

Buddhi mudra helps increase your ability to communicate and intuition.

Method:

Sitting in easy pose (cross-legged) with your spine and arms straight with the backs of your hands resting on your knees, thumbs and little (fourth) fingers together.

Venus Lock

Venus lock helps to transmutes sexual energy and promotes glandular balance.

Method:

Interlace the fingers with the left little finger on the bottom. Put the left thumb tip just above the base of the thumb on the webbing between the thumb and the index finger. the tip of the right thumb presses the fleshy mound at the base of the left thumb. Thumb positions are reversed for women.

Prayer Mudra

Prayer mudra is very good for centering yourself. It helps neutralizes the left and right sides of your body.

Method:

Place the palms of the hands together.

Bear Grip

Bear grip helps increase your mental concentration and also stimulates your heart.

Method:

Place the left palm facing out from the chest with the thumb dowm. Place the palm of the right hand facing the chest. Bring the fingers together. Curl the fingers of both hands so the hands form a fist.

Kriya Mudra

Kriya mudra is great for decreasing your “EGO”, increasing tranquility and opening your 4th (Heart) chakra.

Method:

Place your hands in your lap, thumbs touching with your right hand on top of the left (both hands palm-up). Left hand is on top for women.
