Pranayam (Breathing)
Pranayam exercises are a fundamental part of yoga. They help build patience and endurance.
Prana is the energy that flows in of the body.
Yam is an action or expansion.
Unless otherwise stated all breathing (inhale and exhale) is done through the nose.
Breathing though your nose uses a natural air filtration system, which purifies the air and relaxes your body, balances your mind and nervous system and feeds more oxygen to your muscles, which helps to increase your flexibility.
Breathing through the mouth is for deep emotional cleansing and repairing. It is a deeper cleansing of heart and lungs.
When practicing kundalini yoga silently repeat the mantra Sat (True) while inhaling and Nam (Identity) while exhaling.
Repeating the mantra Sat Nam helps you to focus your mind on the present moment and realize your full potential.
